Things to see and do in Marysville
Take a stroll down the Murchison Street and wander around the cafes, restaurants and other shops. Marysville’s popular Gallipoli Park precinct includs a state-of-the-art children’s Kin Playspace and reflective garden and the New Life Sculpture. Pick local food and produce at the Marysville Farmers Market that happens fourth Sunday of the month. You can visit the Buxton Trout and Salmon Farm, Australia’s first trout farm where trout have been bred for more than 50 years. My son’s loves to pick up his sweets from Marysville Lolly Shop.
When we visit Manrysville, we often spend an aftenoon having a picnic at the park, reading a book by the river, exploring the wild trails and just enjoy being outdoors.


MiRa Marysville Information and Regional Artspace: is a not-for-profit volunteer-based Arts and Visitor Information Centre showcasing the best that Marysville and its surrounds offer.
Bruno’s Art & Sculpture Garden: Step into a world of artistry and resilience at Bruno’s Art & Sculpture Garden, a place reborn from the ashes of the 2009 bushfires. Featuring over 200 captivating sculptures, this enchanting garden showcases Bruno’s incredible creativity, bringing whimsical characters and mythical figures to life. A visit isn’t just about the art but about the inspiring journey of Bruno and his wife, who rebuilt this magical space with passion, dedication, and a touch of cheeky humor. Perfect for all ages, it’s a must-see in Marysville!
Gould Memorial Drive: a must visit during the Autumn season, this lovely picturesque spot is located right on main road between Buxton and Marysville. Here are some of our pictures taken last year.




Another interesting spot to see is ‘The Big Culvert‘. Just 50 meters from the sign, you’ll find The Big Culvert, a historic granite and bluestone arch along the old Yarra Track, once a key route to Melbourne in the 1800s. Built in 1870, this heritage-listed structure was one of five culverts designed to manage flooding and this is the largest of them all. Its offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s past, and something that will interest history lovers alike.
Walking Trails and Waterfalls
Stevensons Falls: these are one of Victoria’s tallest and most spectacular waterfalls and we love visiting them quite often. Plunging 84 meters into the Steavenson River, the falls are easily accessible via a short 350-meter walk from the car park.

Taggerty Cascades Walk: From the Taggerty Cascades car park on Lady Talbot Drive, take the steps down to the bridge. Return the same way. This trail is part of the Beeches Rainforest Walk.

Beauty Spot Trail: is a short but lovely 1.5 km loop, perfect for a leisurely stroll through lush rainforest.
Keppel Falls Walk: A scenic walk through towering mountain ash and fern gullies leads to the falls, offering a tranquil escape into nature.

Phantom Falls: Just a few kilometers west of Marysville, along the scenic Lady Talbot Drive, lies the enchanting Phantom Falls.
Tree Fern Gully Trail: The trail offers a pleasant walk that follows the Steavenson River passing through manna gums, mountain ash, and tree ferns.

Red Hill Trail: as the name suggest, the trail taks you along a red clay path. This 2.1 km one-way walk from Buxton-Marysville Road takes 30-40 minutes, ending at its junction with the Michaeldene Trail. The Red Hill Trail can be accessed from two locations. Halfway along the Michaeldene Trail just after the trestle bridge crossing or along Buxton-Marysville Road across from the Marysville Caravan Park.
Michaeldene Trail: Choose between a short 2.7 km route or a longer 4.3 km loop, taking 30 minutes to 1.5 hours to complete. Winding through beautiful bushland between the Steavenson and Taggerty Rivers, this trail provides a glimpse into Marysville’s historic logging past, making it a perfect walk or ride for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

The Taggerty River Lookout offers stunning views over the Taggerty River, making it a perfect stop along your walk. Nearby, the historic Trestle Bridge, once built to access timber on Red Hill, spans a small gully, adding a touch of history to the landscape. Cross the bridge to continue exploring the Red Hill Track or loop back to your starting point via the Michaeldene Track.
Rubicon Falls Walk: Located in the stunning Rubicon Valley Historic Area, the Rubicon Falls walk starts at the Rubicon Hydro Power Station.


This 7 km walk winds its way through tall forest on a generally flat route, passing a couple of trestle bridges along the way. Cross the Royston Power Station Bridge and follow the aqueduct and tramlines for 3.5km to the Rubicon Dam.
