Sherbrooke Falls

Dominated by the towering mountain ash, I love visiting the Dandenong Ranges and regardless of the weather’s capricious moods, my heart finds solace in visiting these hills. A recent escapade led me to Sherbrooke Falls—a hidden treasure nestled within this natural haven.

The Sherbrooke Falls are tiny, but the easy grade walk covering around 2.8 kms (return) makes it a favourite among all who wander and embrace the tranquility of the surroundings here. The area is also a natural habitat for the beautiful Lyrebird species. The enchanting melody of lyrebirds fills the air, their calls echoing through the trees so keep your senses keen and your eyes peeled, for these masterful mimics may reveal themselves or simply serenade you from their hidden haunts.

On a personal note, my son and I were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of one of these elusive lyrebirds during our visit. However, the encounter was as swift as it was magical, leaving us with only memories to hold onto. While we tried to capture the moment on our phones, it slipped away too quickly, reminding us that some experiences are best savored in the present rather than through a screen.

Walking Path, Sherbrooke Falls Pic Author’s Own

We visited it a few weeks back and there are still a lot of fallen trees from the recent storms but the walking path has been cleared. Nestled within this haven of nature lies the Sherbrooke Picnic Ground which has a few picnic tables, BBQ’s and toilet facilities.

Despite any storm that may pass through, this landscape remains steadfast, an invitation to find solace and wonder amidst the ever-changing dance of the elements. Each visit becomes a pilgrimage, a journey that nurtures the soul and reminds us of the intrinsic connection we share with the world around us.
