Established in 1968 and officially inaugurated by Victorian State Premier Sir Rupert Hamer on March 10, 1973, Old Gippstown stands as a living testament to history.
Nestled on the fringes of Moe, Victoria, Australia, this historical village boasts 45 carefully translocated original structures, supplemented by an additional 10 purpose-built edifices that seamlessly complete the tapestry of the town. Within these buildings, an exquisite array of furniture and artifacts have found their home, harkening back to the very epochs they represent.

The encompassing collections encapsulate a wide span of time, ranging from the early Gippsland settlement and the fervor of gold mining in the 1840s, all the way to the intricately modeled mining town of Yallourn.
Wander through the charming shops lining the main street, immersing yourself in the palpable ambiance of Gippsland’s bygone days. Explore the 35 meticulously restored original structures, each possessing a unique collection. Among these, the “Bushy Park” homestead and “Rhoden’s Halfway House,” one of the last-standing Cobb & Co. inns, stand as vivid windows into history. For me one time is not enough so I am going to visit again soon.

The central mission of Old Gippstown is to present the rich heritage of Gippsland to both present and future generations. As you explore this living tableau of the past, you’ll discover a trove of stories waiting to be unearthed and shared, bridging the gap between history and the contemporary world.
